Having outgrown its Sheffield facilities, Quartzelec moves into modern purpose built manufacturing premises in Dinnington, South Yorkshire.
Quartzelec, a leading international electrical engineering group, has just acquired a prestigious and modern 31,500 sq ft industrial facility at Dinnington, South Yorkshire that is more than six times larger than the existing building in Sheffield it will replace, as part of its organic expansion plans to enable it to better meet customer driven growth.
The newly acquired and well appointed industrial premises are located on a two acre site in Caxton Way, with adjoining land for expansion, as required. The facility already has a 10-ton plus two 5-ton overhead cranes installed within the workshop, with the potential to lift 40 tonnes, as well as an extensive and secure storage yard, which are a pre-requisite in the lifting of heavy electrical motors and plant.
The well appointed and situated facility is also only a couple of miles off the M1 at junction 31, providing excellent transportation links, and is just over 10 miles from Quartzelec’s current premises.
The site, boasting 11kV supplies, was previously used as a foundry but has stood vacant for a while. It has recently undergone a deep clean and refit to the office and warehouse, with new Quartzelec signage already fitted.
“This site is perfect for our needs and growth plans,” stated Dave Graham, General Manager at Quartzelec. Our existing premises in Sheffield were acquired back in the 1990s to enable us to service the needs of the metals industry in the region. However, we’ve subsequently diversified and built a enviable reputation working with customers in many other sectors including power generation, petro-chemical and water and so needed more space and facilities to meet this growing demand.”
The existing, highly experienced team of over 20 engineers and support staff have recently transferred across to the new building and Quartzelec will also be looking to recruit additional skilled engineers moving forward.
“Having totally outgrown its existing and antiquated premises in central Sheffield, close to the Don Valley Stadium, Quartzelec approached us late last year with a brief to identify either existing alternative premises or design and build opportunities in the region,” added Rob Oliver, Director of Commercial Property Consultants GVA, one of the UK’s largest independent commercial property consultant firms with offices across the country.
“The local market is struggling with a lack of supply of modern premises; particularly units designed and fitted out for manufacturing use. We shortlisted a number of options and the purpose built unit on Caxton Way, Dinnington, Rotherham ideally matched the requirement, as it already had the necessary cranes installed plus offered future expansion options and were pleased to negotiate and agree a deal.”
Quartzelec has a long established history of providing local companies with a design, maintenance, refurbishment spares and rewind service solutions for Low Voltage and High Voltage electrical motors and generators, as well pumps, gearboxes and associated static plant. It has an extensive portfolio of UK customers that operate across a variety of industries including: steel mills, power generation, petro-chemical, utilities, the MOD, food processing, traction, water, pharmaceutical and quarrying and mining.
Quartzelec continues to invest heavily in its real estate and infrastructure having opened a new multi-million pound HQ and workshop facility in Rugby in 2012 and completely new workshop and office facilities in Grimsby over the summer. It also has sizeable operations in Wrexham, Manchester, Hamilton, Swansea and Aberdeen plus various international facilities.
