We are delighted to confirm that our Wrexham office is now ISO 45001 certified, the international health and safety management in the workplace standard, having undergone a rigorous audit that was completed during the first week of November 2023.
Paul Gibbon, an independent auditor for the British Assessment Bureau, spent two days with the Quartzelec team, delving into and validating the systems and reporting procedures that are being applied to ensure professional health & safety practices are in place and are adhered to. The initial part of the audit was spent in the office, but Paul also conducted a ‘first hand’ audit on some emergency work being carried out at a customer site. The outcome of the overall audit was excellent with no non-conformances, and just two opportunities for improvement being recommended.
“Our stringent occupational health and safety management system has been designed to prevent work‑related injury through the provision of safe and healthy workplaces and practices,” stated Coretta Hazel, Quartzelec’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) Advisor. “Protecting our people plus supporting our customers is key in achieving business excellence and this certification further supports our commitment to health and safety across all areas within the Quartzelec group of companies.”
Wrexham Business Manager Paul Foster added: “I would like to thank the whole team at Wrexham and our SHEQ Department for their input, support and ongoing assistance. This accreditation is acknowledgement of the teams’ hard work and dedication, as well as the role we all have in ensuring that our working environments are safe and continue to meet rigorous standards.”
ISO 45001 is an international standard for health and safety at work that has been developed by national and international standards committees and is totally independent of government. Implementing ISO 45001 considerably helps organisations demonstrate compliance with health and safety law, however, it goes beyond fundamental requirements and is designed for organisations that have an established health and safety regime and supporting management structure.
There are a number of Quartzelec businesses who have already achieved ISO 45001 including, Rugby, Swansea, Aberdeen, Sheffield and Grimsby. Quartzelec’s Liverpool unit is also embarking on the process with an audit scheduled for February 2024, clearly demonstrating the commitment to ensure health and safety is a priority within the business.
