Marine Electrical Apprentice


As our business continues to grow, we are offering an exciting opportunity for a Marine Electrician Apprentice to join our Marine Division.

This 48‑month apprenticeship combines hands‑on learning with block‑release training at Tullos Training Campus, beginning in September 2026. You’ll gain valuable experience working on electrical systems aboard vessels, supported by an experienced engineering team. Successful completion leads to recognised qualifications including a Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering, NC Engineering, and SVQ units in Performing Engineering Operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Throughout your apprenticeship, and as you progress toward full competency, you will develop skills in:

  • Supporting electrical work within the marine industry
  • Reading and understanding technical drawings from marine, industrial and commercial sectors
  • Installing, testing and inspecting circuits and electrical components
  • Working with AC and DC systems, including generators and battery power sources
  • Completing preventative maintenance tasks
  • Assisting with breakdowns and electrical fault‑finding
  • Working safely in a high‑risk, safety‑critical environment

These responsibilities reflect tasks performed once competency is achieved and are undertaken under supervision during training

 

Your skills and experiences:

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • 3–5 GCSEs (A–C) or equivalent, including Maths, English, and a Science subject
  • Eligibility to enrol with Tullos Training or another approved provider
  • Commitment to a 48‑month apprenticeship programme, starting September 2026
  • Willingness to attend block‑release training and travel to work sites as needed

Qualifications You Will Gain

  • Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering (SCQF Level 6)
  • National Certificate (NC) in an Engineering discipline
  • SVQ Performing Engineering Operations (SCQF Level 5)
  • Practical marine‑specific electrical experience
