Electro-Mechanical Apprentice


The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Electro‑mechanical Apprentice to support the continued growth of our Aberdeen Business Unit and ensure we can meet increasing demand across the Oil & Gas, Marine and Renewables sectors. The position will help strengthen our workshop and site service capabilities by developing a skilled technician who can perform inspection, overhaul and repair activities on rotating equipment under expert supervision.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As an Electro‑mechanical Apprentice, you will follow a structured training programme designed to develop skills and competence in the inspection, overhaul, repair, and maintenance of rotating machinery used across various industrial sectors, including Oil & Gas and Marine.

This apprenticeship combines practical workplace training with academic study delivered through block release at Tullos Training Campus, Aberdeen.

During the apprenticeship, all duties will be carried out under supervision. Upon successful completion of the programme, responsibilities will include:

  • Performing electro‑mechanical repairs, servicing and overhaul of AC and DC rotating equipment
  • Working on rotating machines in both safe and hazardous (explosive atmosphere) environments
  • Rewinding electric motors and generators
  • Supporting site‑based and offshore service activities
  • Assisting with condition monitoring services
  • Providing support for Marine and Naval service requirements
  • Completing COMPEX / EX inspections (once appropriately trained and authorised)
  • Working in accordance with safety procedures, engineering standards and company policies

 

Your skills and experiences:

This programme leads to a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering (SCQF Level 6), equivalent to an SQA Higher.

The apprenticeship includes:

  • A National Certificate (NC) in an engineering discipline at SCQF Level 6 (e.g., Engineering Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering)
  • Core units of an SVQ in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) at SCQF Level 5
  • Structured workplace learning supervised by experienced personnel
  • Block release training at Tullos Training Campus, Aberdeen

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • National 5 (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English, and a Science subject
  • Eligibility to enrol on the relevant training programme
  • Ability and willingness to travel to training locations and customer sites as required
  • Ability to commit to the full 48‑month programme
