Coil Operator


As a Coil Operator, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of coils in line with customer and business requirements. You will operate machinery, follow detailed work instructions, monitor product quality, and ensure production targets are achieved.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and quality at all times
  • Follow all risk assessments, safe systems of work, and procedures
  • Use PPE correctly and consistently
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organised workspace
  • Escalate any safety concerns and stop production if required
  • Produce coils to required specifications and quality standards
  • Carry out in-process and final inspections
  • Identify and report defects or non-conformances
  • Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Minimise waste and optimise material usage
  • Set up machinery and produce first-off samples for approval
  • Operate machinery (including hand taping) in line with procedures
  • Perform changeovers efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Carry out routine cleaning, checks, and basic maintenance
  • Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
  • Ensure correct materials are used for each job
  • Handle materials and finished products safely
  • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors
  • Accurately complete production and quality records
  • Clearly communicate progress, issues, and concerns
  • Contribute to process and efficiency improvements
  • Participate in training and development opportunities
  • Build knowledge of industry practices and new technologies

 

Your skills and experiences:

 

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Experience setting and operating machinery
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • Understanding of health & safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong numeracy and measurement skills
  • Experience using micrometers, Vernier calipers, and gauges

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience in coil manufacturing or hand taping
  • Previous production, manufacturing, or assembly experience
  • Basic quality inspection knowledge
  • Awareness of lean manufacturing principles
